Ethical sources and sustainable production

Herd Alpaca Apparel are committed to ethical sourcing and sustainable production practices. Here are some key steps we take to ensure this:

  1. Local Sourcing: We source alpaca fibre from our own New Forest residing UK based animals and local friends’ farms where the animals are known to us. This supports responsible practices that prioritise the well-being of both animals and local communities.
  2. No Dyes: We do not use dyes in our production process, this minimises environmental impact and preserves the natural colours of the alpaca fleece. We prefer to blend our colours together to make beautiful new ones every year.
  3. Circular Fashion: Our products are designed for longevity and can be recycled or composted when no longer needed. Alpaca Apparel is an investment for your own wardrobe and the future of sustainable fashion.
  4. Transparency and Traceability: We oversee the entire journey from alpaca to apparel, ensuring transparency and traceability in our supply chain. It is a simple process where the sorted fleece is sent to our partner mill in Northern Ireland. The yarn is returned to us in the New Forest. We take this, along with our designs,  to our partner manufacturer in Leicester where we work together to bring to life the beauty of the alpaca fibre.
  5. Care Instructions: We provide care instructions to help customers maintain the quality of their knitwear, ensuring it lasts for years.

These practices reflect our commitment to creating luxurious, sustainable, and ethically produced alpaca knitwear. We are committed firstly to the welfare of the alpacas and then to the apparel.

We love to talk all things alpaca so please do visit our website or give us a call to find out more about our ethos and what we do.
